Cultural Heritage Foundation of the Portuguese-Jewish Congregation (Cepig)

CEPIG is the Cultural Heritage Foundation of the Portuguese-Jewish Congregation and was established in 2003. In recent years the CEPIG has taken over the cultural heritage of the Portuguese-Jewish Congregation and Ets Haim Library - Livraria Montzinos. The synagogue complex is been issued to the CEPIG on an extended lease. This has separated religion (the Jewish community), on the one hand, from management of the Portuguese-Jewish cultural heritage, on the other hand.

Partnership with the JHM

Since January 2009 the Jewish Historical Museum has been responsible for the administration of the synagogue complex and museological access. This arrangement arises from a sense of joint responsibility for Jewish cultural heritage in the centre of Amsterdam. This heritage comprises the Jewish Historical Museum, the Hollandse Schouwburg, the Portuguese Synagogue and its collection of ritual objects, and Ets Haim Library - Livraria Montzinos.

Restoration

The synagogue complex is presently undergoing restoration under the aegis of the CEPIG board, in close co-operation with the Jewish Historical Museum. The board has succeeded in conjunction with the museum in raising a major share of the funding required for the restoration.
