Candlelight Concert at the Portuguese Synagogue  Wednesday 12 March 2014 19.30

Asko|Schönberg plays 6x7

Asko/Schönberg. Photography by Hans HijmeringThroughout the year, the Jewish Cultural Quarter offers concerts at the Portuguese Synagogue. You can enjoy a wide range of musical styles while the synagogue is being lit by hundreds of candles. Tonight's concert will be special: the renowned Dutch ensemble Asko|Schönberg, conducted by Bas Wiegers, will perform compositions by six students of composition.

Next to playing a busy concert schedule, Asko|Schönberg also sets up educational programs. 6x7 is a program directed at young composition talents at the Dutch conservatories. To a young composer nothing is more important than gaining practical experience. Likewise, to a contemporary music ensemble nothing is more important than being aware of fresh young talent.

For the occasion of our exhibition Schoenberg & Kandinksy. Artistic Revolutionaries we're working together with three conservatories and Asko|Schönberg. Every Sunday, in the middle of the exhibition space, small concerts take place, where new and old compositions are played by music students. The culmination of this cooperation is tonight's concert, consisting of six compositions played by Asko|Schönberg. The students are present and will talk about their compositions.
