Candlelight Concert during Amsterdam Light Festival  Thursday 16 January 2014 19.30

The Hague String Trio plays Schubert, Webern, Schulhoff and Eisler

Throughout the year, the Portuguese Synagogue is organizing concerts. You can enjoy a wide range of musical styles while the synagogue is being lit by hundreds of candles. A word of advice: there's no heating system in the synagogue, so it can be quite cold! The concerts take about one hour. Tonight you can enjoy five compositions played by The Hague String Trio.

The Hague String Trio

Justyna Briefjes - volin
Julia Dinerstein - viola
Miriam Kirby - cello

Since 2006 these three inspiring musicians have been focusing on famous and not so famous string trios. Tonight at the Portuguese Synagogue their program is inspired by the exhibition Schoenberg & Kandinsky. Artistic Revolutionaries, with pieces from Schoenberg enthusiasts Eisler, Schulhoff and Webern. The Trio concludes with a beautiful classic, a string trio by Schubert.

Hanns Eisler (1898-1962) - Scherzo for String Trio (1920) and Prelude and Fugue on the name of B-A-C-H (1934)
Erwin Schulhoff (1894-1942) - Duo for Violin and Cello (1925)
Anton Webern (1883-1945) - Satz for String Trio, op. posth. (1925)
Franz Schubert (1797-1828) - String Trio in B flat major, D. 581 (1817)
