Every year, the Portuguese Synagogue takes part in the Grachtenfestival (Canal Festival). This year we are proud to present a very special concert by the 24 members of the International Mahler Orchestra.

Every year, the Portuguese Synagogue takes part in the Canal Festival. This year, we are proud to present a very special concert by the 24-member The orchestra's founder is the Israeli-American conductor Yoel Gamzou (b. 1987), winner of the prestigious ECF Princess Margriet Award 2013. Gamzou is an exceptional talent, whose energy inspires multiple generations of musicians. In 2010 Gamzou conducted his own arrangement of Mahler's unfinished Tenth Symphony.

Today's program consists of two concerts. The first concert at the Portuguese Synagogue starts at 16:00 with compositions by Elmar Lampson (the orchestra's composer in residence), Mahler, Debussy, Bloch and Hartmann. The second concert will be held at The Amsterdam Music Theatre, starting at 19:00 with compositions by Strauss, Schulhoff, Korngold, Shostakovich and Bach.

The concert is a joint initiative of the Jewish Cultural Quarter, the European Cultural FoundationThe Amsterdam Music TheatreKunstenisraël and the Grachtenfestival.
