History
In the relatively tolerant environment of this
city that was a hub of economic growth and international trade, the
Sephardim were free to live as Jews in Amsterdam. Three Sephardi
Jewish congregations soon arose, each one with its own places of
assembly. Beautiful collections of ritual objects were
established.
