The Netherlands does not yet have a museum designed to tell the comprehensive history of the Shoah. The National Shoah Museum | Hollandsche Schouwburg will be realized in two historic buildings: the Hollandsche Schouwburg  (once a renowned city theatre) and the former Hervormde Kweekschool directly across the street  (earlier a Teacher Training College) on Amsterdam's Plantage Middenlaan. The tram stop in-between the two buildings will be part of the museum as well. For the trams running on this very line served as carriers of victims but also disrupted the view of the German soldiers allowing for the escape of some 600 children via the Kweekschool's front door. Therefore, the Hollandsche Schouwburg represents the victims and the Hervormde Kweekschool symbolizes the resistance; both buildings will be part of the new museum and will tell stories that are inextricably connected to these three historic sites that have not previously been shared with the public.

The Hollandsche Schouwburg is currently a monument and commemorative site that also serves as an educational center of national significance. Every year, about 50.000 adults and children visit the building to learn about and to commemorate those who lost their lives in the Shoah/Holocaust and to look around the building that served as chain in the Nazi murder strategy.

The National Shoah Museum | Hollandsche Schouwburg aspires to become a center that focuses attention on the Shoah and related themes in a variety of ways, from museum presentations to debate and contemplation will also take place between 'these walls, which have so much to tell us. The creation of the Dutch National Shoah Museum is well under way; however your continued support is of the utmost importance for the successful completion of this project!
