Explore Jewish Amsterdam by Foot

The walk start at the former Ashkenazi synagogue complex, today's Jewish Historical Museum. From here they take in numerous houses, buildings and monuments that recall the chequered history of Amsterdam's Jewish Quarter. Waterlooplein market, for example, Jodenbreestraat, Gassan diamond works on Uilenburgerstraat, the Portuguese Synagogue, the Dockworker statue, the Auschwitz monument, Wertheimpark, the ANDB diamond workers' union building on Henri Polaklaan and Hollandsche Schouwburg, once a theatre, but during the war a detention centre for Jews rounded up to be deported.
