Over the past five years, the Jewish Historical Museum's
collection has been enriched by the addition of almost 6,000
objects, photographs and documents. From 3 July to 30 August 2009,
a varied selection of these acquisitions will be displayed in the
JHM's print room.
Photographs that Emmy Andriesse took of Amsterdam's Jewish quarter
in the 1950s will be shown, as well as recent work by the
photographer Vardi Kahana. Also on display will be paintings by
Isaac Israels, Meijer Bleekrode and Sara Teixeira de Mattos, along
with documents, posters, and personal possessions. The exhibition
will give a picture of the museum's multi-faceted collection, at
the heart of which is the Netherlands' Jewish cultural heritage.
From 9 July to 23 August, the JHM's summer café will be open again,
in the courtyard of the Academy of Architecture - reached through
the archway opposite the museum. In these pleasant surroundings,
visitors can order from a special menu of delicious Jewish and
Moroccan refreshments (to accompany the exhibition Morocco.
Photographs by Elias Harrus and Pauline Prior). In the
galleries surrounding the terrace, you can see recent work made by
young visitors in the workshop of the JHM's Children's Museum.
