President Shimon Peres visited the Portugese Synagogue and Hollandsche Schouwburg  30 September 2013



Israeli President Shimon Peres visited the Hollandsche Schouwburg and the Portuguese Synagogue on September 29th in the Jewish Cultural Quarter in Amsterdam. This visit was part of a three-day official visit to our country on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the State of Israel.

Managing Director Joël Cahen welcomed Peres in the Hollandsche Schouwburg. The president took a moment to view the impressive wall with all the names of deported and murdered Jews from the Netherlands. He also laid a wreath at the monument in memory of the victims, and he put down a tulip on the wall with the text written by him: "In this
solemn place of memory, shall we never forget Those who
were murdered by the Nazis were murdered
Innocents - innocents and holy - and.

In the Portuguese Synagogue President Peres visited the ancient Library Ets Haim. In the Golden Book he wrote: "Our great leaders, after the second destruction Decided That the Jewish people would be learning people A people of the book The books kept us alive at home and abroad This library is testimony to our strength. "
