With historic film clips and audio recordings, Until the curtain
falls brings the theatrical history of the Hollandsche Schouwburg to life. The emphasis is
on the concerts, plays, revues, and operettas performed there up to
1942 (such as the première of Herman Heijermans' play Op hoop van
zegen (The Good Hope) in 1900). Many of the featured songs inspired
later generations, and today, they are reminders of a rich and
illustrious past. Heintje Davids, Sylvain Poons, and Esther de Boer
van Rijk (the leading lady in Op hoop van zegen) are just a few of
the stars that you can see and hear in Until the curtain
falls.
Until the curtain falls (15 minutes in length, with English
subtitles) will be on continuous display every day in the entrance
hall of the Hollandsche Schouwburg.
Until the curtain falls is presented in connection with the
exhibition Laugh . . . and Forget! Songs
by Jewish artists
at the Jewish Historical Museum from 6 March to 21 June 2009.
