Nir Baram (Jerusalem, 1976) is a young
Israeli writer who published his fourth novel Good People
in 2010. It is the first historical novel written by an Israeli
author, which tackles the Second World War and its themes from the
perspective of collaborators. The novel appeared on the Israeli
bestseller list for four months and received extraordinary praise
from critics and authors. To this date translation rights for
Good people were sold to 14 languages. In 2010 Baram won
the Prime Minister's Award for Hebrew literature and Good
people was shortlisted for the Sapir Prize. The Dutch
translation was published by De Bezige Bij in October 2012 and
translated by Hilde Pach.
The Dutch Foundation for Literature and the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts invited Nir Baram to stay and work in the Writer's Residency above the Athenaeum Bookshop at Spui for the month of November.
Daphne Meijer (Amsterdam, 1961) is a writer and journalist and has been writing about Jewish history and culture for many years. Her debut novel Remains of the century was published in 1993.
