Candlelight concert in the Portuguese Synagogue  Thursday 23 May 2013 20.00

Israel Brass Quintet

The Jewish Cultural Quarter regularly presents concerts in the Portuguese Synagogue. You can enjoy a wide range of musical styles in a synagogue illuminated by hundreds of candles. The Portuguese Synagogue is unheated, and it can be cool inside even in the spring, so make sure to bring a coat with you! The concerts are about one hour long. Grachtenfestival Foto: Ronald Knapp

As the name suggests, the Israel Brass Quintet consists entirely of brass instruments: two trumpets, a trombone, a tuba, and a horn. Since 1998, they have been performing theme concerts that transport audiences to special times and places in music history, with titles such as From Granada to Jerusalem and Bella Italia. The programme for the Portuguese Synagogue on 23 May is still a surprise!
Last year the quintet played at the International Jewish Music Festival. As the winners of the Jewish Cultural Quarter Prize (as well as the KAB Productions Canada Prize), they were invited to perform here again. If you missed their first concert, you have a second chance!
