Candlelight Concert Rembrandt Frerichs Trio & Benjamin Glorieux  Thursday 17 March 2016 19.30

Dutch piano trio invites celebrated Belgian cellist

Each month at the Portuguese Synagogue: beautiful acoustics and hundreds of burning candles form the backdrop for our candlelight concert series. The Rembrandt Frerichs Trio has invited the Belgian cello star Benjamin Glorieux for an evening of Jewish, Persian and classical music.

In 2011 the album release of Levantasy was met with raving reviews: the piano trio led by Rembrandt Frerichs, while rooted in jazz, explored the terrain of Jewish and Persian music, with its non-Western tonalities and structures. On the album the trio is accompanied by oboist Yoram Lachish; at the Portuguese Synagogue they've invited another musical guest: the Belgian cellist Benjamin Glorieux.

Benjamin Glorieux (1979) is a celebrated cellist and conductor from Kortrijk, Belgium, who's studied at prestigious music schools around the world and is part of the B'Rock chamber orchestra. Influenced by Glorieux, the program at the Portuguese Synagogue will also include several Bach pieces.
