Roosendaal

A Jewish community arose at Roosendaal early in the 19th century. The community, most of the members of which belonged to a single family, was declared independent in 1821 and assigned the status of Ringsynagoge or regional community. When one of the leaders of the Roosendaal community moved to Breda in 1841, the community ceased to function independently and was voluntarily disbanded and merged into the Jewish community at Bergen op Zoom. Today, Roosendaal falls within the district of the Jewish community at Breda.
